African Reports
by David Harriman

The Francis Asbury Society is also ministering in Africa.  In March 2006, David Harriman was invited for the second time by the Africa Gospel Church to Kenya for two interdenominational evangelistic crusades.  Following is David's report:

Kenya Report

March 9 - 19, 2006

Kenya is located on the east side of Africa and has a population of more than 31,000,000.  English is the official language, followed by Swahili and Kipsigis.  The country continues to be a tourist attraction due to its wildlife.  It is also a big producer and exporter of tea, which is said to be one of the best in the world.

Unfortunately, as is true in most of Africa, the AIDS epidemic continues to take many lives.  I was informed that around 500 people die daily in Kenya, due to the spread of this disease.  The Gospel, however, continues to be the answer.

Kapsoit Crusade

March 9 - 12

The first evangelistic crusade was held in the town of Kapsoit, approximately two hours from the capital city of Nairobi.  The town is known for its high level of prostitution due to the influx of truck drivers who make Kapsoit their stopping point.  These women, however, are now being reached with the Gospel and lives are being changed!

Outdoor meetings were held each afternoon, Thursday through Friday, with the final service on Sunday.  The music contributed to the spiritual festive air in each gathering.  From the people seated on the ground and from those standing, there was a genuine response to the evangelistic messages.

The total estimated attendance for the crusade came to 3,700.  On Sunday morning there were approximately 2,500 people.  Many brought umbrellas to shade themselves from the sun.  More than 200 sought Christ during the entire crusade and many also sought prayer for physical healing.

Bomet Crusade

March 16 - 19

The second crusade was held in the town of Bomet, approximately three hours from the capital city.  I was informed that this was the largest crusade ever to be held in this community.  Thursday through Sunday, the people of Bomet gathered in an open field to hear the Gospel.  Even a member of Kenya's parliament was present.

There was live music, Kenya style, by different singing groups, which charged the air with emotion and excitement.  Only in Africa could anything of this nature happen.  It was a time of spiritual festivity.

The attendance at the crusade came to more than 9,000.  On Sunday morning there was an estimated crowd of over 5,000.  More than 500 sought Christ for the first time and many others went forward to be healed.  It was beautiful to see.

Leadership Sessions

Besides the crusades, I also had the privilege of speaking to approximately 50 church leaders during the morning sessions on Thursday and Friday of each week.  Such attentiveness and hunger!  Many made new commitments and sought heart purity.

As a side note, Africa Gospel Church now has 1,400 congregations with one new congregation born each week.  Approximately 40 are officially incorporated each year.

It is a joy to represent the King of Kings!  In His Service,

David H. Harriman
