Day by Day - A Walk Through the Scriptures
Softback by David Callahan
44 pages
$5.00

Add to Cart $5.00

The scriptures are the eternal power of God for salvation. The writer of Hebrews puts it this way: "The word of God is full of life and power, and is keener than the sharpest two-edged sword. It pierces even to the severance of soul from spirit, and penetrates between the joints and the marrow, and it can discern the secret thoughts and purposes of the heart. And no created thing is able to escape its scrutiny; but everything lies bare and completely exposed before the eyes of Him with whom we have to do" (Hebrews 4: 12-13, Weymouth). The Psalmist says the Word of the Lord is "a lamp to my feet and a light to my path" (Psalm 119:105, NASB).

The Francis Asbury Society is pleased to have this opportunity to introduce two new Bible reading plans. The first reads through the entire Bible, and the second through the New Testament. Of all the many ways and means God employs to "get through" to us, His own word (and the proclamation of that word) is the most powerful. However "afar off" we are, God is working to reveal Himself to us. All His ways and all His words, all His promises and all His providences are intended to lead us to Himself.

Reading the Whole Bible in a Year Introduction
The objective of this Bible reading plan is to read through the entire Bible in one calendar year. This plan differs from other Bible reading plans in two aspects. First, the Bible is read through in roughly chronological order. The advantage in doing this is that the Old Testament prophets are read in context with the historical events of the nation of Israel as recorded in 1st and 2nd Kings and 1st and 2nd Chronicles. This shows us what motivated God to speak to his people and warn/instruct them through His prophets. Also, Paul’s letters to churches and individuals are read in the order they were written and in the context of his life’s events as recorded by Luke in the book of Acts.

The second aspect of the reading plan is that the New Testament is read in parallel with the Old Testament. Some chronological Bible reading plans delay reading any of the New Testament until the Old Testament is finished. This is not as rewarding as reading both testaments together. The advantage to reading the two testaments in parallel is that one can clearly see that the entire New Testament is embedded in the Old Testament.

Imagine walking down a dusty road with Jesus. He begins to make unusual statements. "I am the Bread of Life." "I am the Light of the World." "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life." As soon as Jesus says, "I am ...," you perk up and take notice of what comes next. What part of His person is He revealing now? You ponder them. What does He mean?

Taking the position of a mentor to a young couple, Adam and Megan, Dr. Demaray guides you through Jesus' "I am" statements about himself. In each one, Jesus reveals another facet of His person.

Slip on your sandals and walk into a new level of intimacy with Jesus in Mile Markers: 40 Intimate Journeys with Jesus

"This little work comes as overflow from the life of one who has searched to know the best of the saints of the ages. He shares from the gems he has found there. Authentic Demaray!"

Making Disciples One Conversation at a Time
Softback by D. Michael Henderson
191 pages
$11.00

Add to Cart $11.00

Jesus was a conversationalist, and that’s how He taught. Through intimate exchanges with His disciples, He opened their eyes to the marvels of the Kingdom. And at the proper time, He commissioned them to go and make disciples of all nations, teaching each one all they had learned.

Christ calls believers to do the same today. He asks them to make disciples as He did – one conversation, one relationship at a time. But sometimes we spend more time keeping track of how many people we’ve told about Christ than we do getting to know them.

Making disciples is more than witnessing to nonbelievers and tallying numbers. Making disciples is really about building authentic relationships with those closest to us and helping them to follow Jesus through heart-to-heart talks and committed friendships.

This book challenges you to reexamine your idea of evangelism and discipleship and reconsider what you say in your daily conversations. Author D. Michael Henderson will show you how to turn your everyday interactions into open doors through which you can tell others about God and His love for them.

D. Michael Henderson is the executive director of Heart of Africa, a mission resource agency that provides breakthrough projects for African ministries. He has been a college/seminary professor and a teaching pastor for 40 years. His special interest is personal discipleship and ministry training, for which he writes materials and conducts seminars. He has graduate degrees from Asbury Theological Seminary, Yale University, and Indiana University.

Michael and his wife, Martha, live in Florida but spend a large part of each year in Africa training church leaders.

The God Who Is Triune
Paperback by Dr. Allan Coppedge
345 pages
$27.00

Add to Cart $27.00

"We Worship One God in Trinity, and Trinity in Unity."
-Athanasian Creed, 6th century A.D.

Taking the triune being and nature of God as fundamental to all Christian teaching, Coppedge’s comprehensive treatment sheds light not on just the doctrine of God but on a myriad of issues essential to Christian life, worship and witness. Profound insight is gained especially on the character of God’s sovereignty, holiness and love and the nature of creation, human freedom, revelation and redemption. This volume will be of significant benefit to the theological student, but also to the pastor or teacher looking for theological refreshment.

"What a delight to find a mature systematic theologican who takes Jesus seriously when he talks about God! Coppedge actually believes Jesus meant it when he said that if one wants to know the Father or the Spirit that one must start with the Son. The result is that God becomes more than an idea, or a dogma, or one who is always a third-personal ‘he" whom we know about. This triune God is shown to be a second-personal ‘you’ to whom one must respond with much more than a mere thought. Good stuff!"  -Dr. Dennis F. Kinlaw, Founder, Francis Asbury Society, and Former President, Asbury College

"Allan Coppedge has produced a comprehensive trinitarian doctrine of God. His thirty years of praying, teaching and preaching have culminated in one of the clearest discussions of the holy One ever produced. Coppedge’s facile handling of ancient resources and the most recent theological assessments of the divine nature, as well as his offering of a new paradigm for relating holiness and love in the personhood of God, are more than gratifying – this is a unique call to a theological revolution ... Teachers, pastors and anyone who wants to think more clearly about God and to live in the dynamic life of personal holy love will benefit from this text." -M. William Ury, Professor of Systematic and Historical Theology, Wesley Biblical Seminary, Jackson, Mississippi

"Allan Coppedge has shown us how the recently revived interest in the Trinity can lead us to some new answers to some old theological conundrums. He has shown us a way forward, and we owe him a debt of gratitude." -John Oswalt, Research Professor of Old Testament, Wesley Biblical Seminary, Jackson, Mississippi

Social Justice Through the Eyes of Wesley - John Wesley's
Theological Challenge to Slavery

Paperback by Irv A. Brendlinger
271 pages
$24.99

Add to Cart $24.99

European enslavement of Africans and the development of the slave trade began in the sixteenth century. As the New World opened up, the slave trade thrived and slave labour became a significant economic force. Slavery itself was seldom challenged on humanitarian or religious grounds – in fact, evangelical leaders often used the Bible to justify slavery. In the late eighteenth century a notable exception emerged: John Wesley. Though little has been written about this dimension of Wesley’s life, he was the first Christian leader of world renown to take a decisive stand against slavery.

With wide-ranging analysis and depth, Dr. Brendlinger has brought to light the strength of Wesley’s convictions about slavery and demonstrates how his theology compelled him to work to abolish it. From the writing of Thoughts Upon Slavery to his interactions with key players such as Wilberforce, Clarkson, Sharp and Benezet, Wesley utilized all means available to him to support the cause. The breadth of his authority and respect enabled him to influence Methodists (in England and America) to use their collective power to bring about radical societal change. Wesley’s legacy to Methodism is extensive, but his contribution to the antislavery movement is singularly significant in bringing down the institution of slavery. This is his story.

"In this valuable volume, Brendlinger shows the remarkable interplay between Wesley’s theology and the rest of his ministry, that his theology not only determined the character of his evangelism but was also the very basis for his social passion which had such a redemptive influence on eighteenth century Britain and nineteenth century America."

– From the Foreword by Dennis Kinlaw, Founder of The Francis Asbury Society
