Dr. Burgess is a member of the founding group of The Francis Asbury Society, which was started in 1983. Burgess has served as Executive Director (part-time), 1983-1990, and Director of Publishing activities, 1983-present.

Dr. Burgess has served pastorates in Michigan, Alberta and Indiana. He joined the faculty of Asbury Theological Seminary in 1978 from which appointment he retired in 2002 to rejoin the staff of the Francis Asbury Society. In addition to his responsibilities for publishing, he has been charged with restarting the Covenant Fellowship.

Prior to teaching at Asbury Seminary, Burgess taught at Mountain View Bible College, Didsbury, Alberta; Bethel College, Mishawaka, IN; and Messiah College, Grantham, PA. He has also served pastorates in Michigan, Alberta, and Indiana.

Burgess has published three books and contributed chapters to a number of others. He has also contributed articles to professional encyclopedias.

Harold and his wife, Marcia, reside in Wilmore. They have two daughters, Colleen and Cheryl, and seven grandchildren.
