Dr. Ken Kinghorn gives a lecture on Henry Clay Morrison

The Dennis F. Kinlaw Symposium for Theological Dialogue has convened twice, to the delight of all who were involved. This new lecture series is part of the commitment of the Francis Asbury Society to participate in theological dialogue and scholarship for the purpose of bringing an emphasis on piety, rather than polity, to a task that has been increasingly relegated to abstracted ivory towers. To this end, we have initiated a series of lectures to be held three times per academic semester in the FAS Ministry Center.

Each Symposium features a lecture (followed by a light lunch) on a variety of topics relating to theology and ministry, and are held in an informal setting that encourages active discussion and interaction between attendees and lecturers. The aim is the mutual edification of all those involved.

At the end of September, at the innaugural Symposium, Dr. Ken Kinghorn was the featured lecturer (see photo). He gave a overview of the history of Asbury Theological Seminary, focusing on the seminal figure of Henry Clay Morrison. Last week, Symposium II featured renowned Wesleyan scholar Dr. Ken Collins, who gave an overview of the core of Wesley’s theology in a lecture entitled “John Welsey at 30,000 Feet.”

The next Symposium will take place on Thursday, December 1, at 10:30am at the FAS Ministry Center. The featured lecturer will be Dr. Steve Stratton, and his lecture is entitled, “The Trinitarian Faith as a Model for Forming Relationships.” The Symposium is open to all.
