Jim Harriman Tape Descriptions
JH-100 through JH-106

JH-100 -- The Humility of God

Philippians 2:5-11
Traces the steps of humility that God displayed in the Old Testament, culminating in the humility portrayed by the incarnation of Christ. The message challenges us to take on the humility and mind of Christ, as he has set the example for us to follow.

JH-101 -- A Cause Greater Than I

Matthew 9:9-17
This message reminds us that the cause of Christ is to bring sinners to repentance, but also to bring them into a marriage relationship with the Groom (Jesus) of the church.  The message discusses what the marriage relationship entails.

JH-102 -- What To Do With Hereditary Sin

Romans 7:21—8:2
Traces the development of the concept of hereditary sin since the early church fathers. After coming to an understanding that hereditary sin is a problem in the human race, this message provides an answer to the dilemma of the fallen condition of the heart.

JH-103 -- Parallels of Jonah's Disobedience

Jonah 1; 3:1-6; 4:1
This message begins by discussing the Hebrew word play that the author of Jonah employs to discuss Jonah’s steps of disobedience to God’s call on his life to go to Ninevah.  The parallels of his disobedience are often repeated today.  The message attempts to answer three questions: (1) what does the book of Jonah have to say about Jonah? (2) what does the book have to say about God? (3) what does the book have to say about us today?

JH-104 -- A Clear Definition of Sin

James 1:12-15; Romans 1:18-20; 2:12-16
As the title states, this message deals with the definition of sin. Some people have a wrong concept of sin and think they are sinning every day, when in fact they are not. Others perhaps are sinning, but do not call it that. Both categories need a clear biblical definition of sin in order to have a clearer picture of God, his holiness, and his grace.

JH-105 -- Walking in the Spirit

Galatians 5:13-26; 2 Corinthians 10:1
Being Spirit filled is more that a one time experience. This message reminds Christians that living a Spirit filled life involves emulating the spirit of Christ and a daily walking in the Spirit of Christ.

JH-106 -- The Kingdom of Truth in a Time of Confusion

This message asserts that we live in a world of confusion.  It is this kind of world that the Kingdom of Truth invades.  This message discusses the characteristics of the Kingdom of Truth as it invades our world.  It challenges the listener to represent the Kingdom of Truth by incorporating those characteristics into one's own life.

JH-107 -- Guarding the Heart

The sermon “Guarding the Heart” is taken from Proverbs 4. They are Solomon’s words, “Keep/guard your heart with all diligence.” This phrase is discussed in the context of Proverbs chapters 4 and 5. The evil that Solomon faced in his day is the same evil today. This message emphasizes the mandate to guard our hearts from evil in this modern era, but it also points out how we are to do it.

JH-108 -- Living with the Rub

The message entitled “Living with the Rub” looks into the life of David and how he endured the frictional relationship he had with “the sons of Zeruiah.” The text is taken from 2 Samuel 3:39; “These men, the sons of Zeruiah, are to harsh for me.” The sermon reveals that life has its sorrows, pains, hurtful circumstances, and hurtful relationships. These are the “sons of Zeruiah” in our lives.  How do we deal with them and maintain the life of a Christian? This message provides an answer to that question.

JH-112 -- Missionary Kid

"Missionary Kid" is a humorous and delightful presentation of Jim's growing up years in the jungles of Bolivia, South America as a son of missionary parents. This message was presented "in-house" at the World Gospel Mission Celebration of Missions on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana (1999). You will soon become aware that Jim is speaking to people he has known all his life of what it is like growing up on the mission frield. You will enjoy listening to "Missionary Kid" as it reveals a common sense approach to missionary living and to life anywhere in the world. This is a must hear for anyone thinking of raising a family overseas in a missionary environment.

JH-113 -- His Thoughts, My Motivation

This message entitled, "His Thoughts, My Motivation" was preached at the WGM Celebration of Missions in 1999, the eye of a new millennium. The message focuses on the scene where Jesus is standing before Caiaphas, the High Priest, on the even of our LORD'S crucifixion. It discusses what was going through Jesus' mind as he was being ridiculed and mistreated. The challenge is presented to those who take on the name "Christian" to have the mind of Christ and take on his character in order to be an influence in this new millennium.
