As I write I am in Lucedale, MS preaching a United Methodist camp meeting. Last week I was with a beautiful group of Methodists in Spanish Fort, Alabama. I suppose at FAS we call it “field work.” Let me just say, the company is GREAT in the field! I am reminded of Jesus when he said, “when they receive you, they receive me.” I believe Christ deeply identified with folks in the highways and byways. No wonder he taught that the fields were “white unto harvest.” Christ’s picture of fields laden with grain reminds people that, no matter where we may be, “the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof” (Psalm 24:1).

Your kind support of the Francis Asbury Society answers the prayers of Christ when he says, “Pray ye therefore, that the Lord sends out laborers into the harvest.” Some beautiful people received Christ as their Savior this week. ¬†Whenever I am privileged to pray with someone about their salvation I always ask myself, “What if we hadn’t gone?” Could someone have missed out? Do we really believe that daily there are eternal things at stake? Not many of us would want that responsibility. I suppose that is why he said “Go” as a direct command.

Well, thank you for hearing my thoughts today. You were with me everywhere I was these last two weeks. You, our partners, were kneeling with people as they received Christ. You were praying with the dozens as they recommitted themselves to Jesus. And because of that, you are making an eternal difference. And, it pleases God.

Yours from the field,
