In Transition – Jason & Erin Owens

Posted on | April 28, 2015 | 2 Responses

Jason and ErinAt this season in life we feel kind of like Abraham in the Old Testament. This man was called to leave family and familiarity in order to go to an unknown land and be given a child (eventually) by God. We are currently in this time of transition from the familiar to the unfamiliar in so many ways.

Erin is graduating seminary in May, which brings a whole new season of life and uncertainty. Jason has accepted a job, beginning in June, as the Young Adult Pastor for LakeRidge UMC in Lubbock, TX, while Erin will continue on through FAS as the Director of Christian Futures. Somewhere in the midst of these big changes, the Owens household has also opened our home to an amazing guy named Tyler, who is part of our family now. Tyler lives with us while he is in a time of transition himself, having recently turned 18. All of these circumstances would seem sufficient for you to understand this changing season of life, yet we also have the joy of being co-creators with God because Erin is pregnant, due in the fall! Praise the Lord!

Now, we just flooded you with information overload regarding the big changes in our lives in the coming months, but it is the small things that happen every day that sustain us to press on into the future. We absolutely love getting to feed into young adults, college students and high school students – meeting with them at Starbucks, Solomon’s Porch (in Wilmore), the FAS Ministry Center, and many other places. As we see these students growing in the Lord we cannot help but press on to see what good things the Lord will do next!

Another blessing is being able to teach people to fish, not simply give them fish to eat. Let us explain. As we disciple people, write curriculum and facilitate retreats, we do not simply teach these individuals the Bible and provide a place for them to encounter Jesus. No, we live our lives and teach in such a manner that people learn how to read the Bible in a healthy way and encounter Jesus in everyday life, living in intimate relationship with the King of kings.

I know it may be difficult at times to separate personal life and work (as I have somewhat done above), but it is especially difficult in our lives because we love our job so much that it becomes something that is part of our personal lives too (in a healthy way). Thank you for caring and listening to all that God is doing in and through the Owens family.
