Dr. Ron
Smith, President of Wesley Biblical Seminary, Jackson, Mississippi, is a 1977 graduate of
Asbury College, 1982 (M.D.) graduate of Asbury Theological Seminary, and
a 1990 (T.H.) graduate of Princeton School of Theology. He has just
finished the Masters of Philosophy degree at the graduate school of Drew
University, and is writing the dissertation for his Ph.D. The
concentration of study is on the theological and intellectual history of
revivalism, particularly in America.
Ron is an ordained deacon and elder in the Southern New Jersey
Conference of the United Methodist Church and appointed to the
pastorate. Ron pastored three churches in New Jersey before serving for
three years as a Fellow at the Francis Asbury Society. He then served as
Executive Director of the Society for two years. In July 1998, Ron
became the President of Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson,
Mississippi.
Dr. Smith has been privileged to speak in a wide arena of
denominational settings around the world. He has served as a keynote
speaker in a variety of regional and national meetings for denominations
and consortiums in the broader Wesleyan world. Ron has also delivered
the noted Thomas F. Staley Distinguished Lecture Series.
Ron’s special burden is for students in higher education. He and his
family have hosted a weekly meeting for spiritual growth and study with
college, seminary students and some faculty members.
Ron currently serves on the Board of Trustees for World Gospel Mission
and is a member of the OMS International Board of Trustees. He is
a Board member for the Francis Asbury Society, and serves on
the editorial board for the Francis Asbury Press.
Ron is married to Dorena (Ritzler) and together they have two daughter,
Katie and Laura Jane.
