Mary Sutherland

BobMary99@adelphia.net

Mary Sutherland lives in Wilmore, Kentucky.  She enjoys her extended service with OMS International of corresponding with missionaries around the world and the TEA Time ministry.  Mary, alongside her late husband, Bob, served many years in Colombia and Ecuador and for a short time in Spain.

In the summer of 1960,  Mary went to Colombia under OMS International.  While there, she sensed God's call to return as a full-time missionary.  August 25,1961, Bob and Mary were married, and in December 1964, they left for language school in Costa Rica with their two young sons, Stephen and Philip, before going to serve in Colombia.  Our daughter, Rebecca - Becky, was born later.  During this time, three new-born sons died.  After 37 years of marriage, Bob died of cancer in December 1998.

Stephen and Kathy with three of their four children are missionaries in Ecuador.  Christina,  their oldest,  is living with Mary and attending Asbury College.  Phil, Johanna and their 2 children, Sophia and Oliver, live just outside of Wilmore where they minister to foster children.  Jeff, Becky and their son, Nathaniel, live in Georgetown, KY.   Mary is very thankful for and proud of each one.

Mary's ministry in Colombia and Ecuador mainly involved teaching; home schooling their children, classes in the Institutes, women's Bible studies, handcrafts, and seminars on teaching.  For many years she was also the hostess in their area so did lots of cooking - an art she has completely lost!  Correspondence was high on her list as well.

The greatest joy for Mary was and is sharing the Word of God with others, giving a listening ear, and praying with others.  We talked, laughed, cried, prayed together and grew in our walk with JESUS!

What a JOY serving JESUS!
